Second five colour Nexpress acquired after the commercial success of the first Nexpress as well as another Digimaster 9150.
This creates a six Digimaster and two Nexpress digital Kodak facility, probably the largest in Europe.

Installation of Spinemaster
The Hong Kong subsidiary of Chris Fowler International takes delivery of their first Watkiss Spinemaster. All three Chris Fowler offices are now using this production technology. The Spinemaster allows medium pagination books from 32pp to 80pp to have the benefit of square binding. This is particularly important with digital printing as the binding of the finished product often looks inferior compared to traditional production techniques.

Installation of first Kodak Digimaster with inline finishing
The New York subsidiary of Chris Fowler International takes delivery of its first Kodak Digimaster high speed printer. Able to deliver 110 pages a minute through an inline saddle-stitcher, it is doubling the digital print capacity of the operation and improving the quality of output. It will also have a Watkiss Spinemaster attached to produce “square” binding for medium sized books. It is intended that a second Digimaster will be added within the next few months.

Graduate recruitment program commences
First recruit joins from graduate recruitment program. Whilst CFI already employs graduates in an accounting function it’s desire to develop it’s own print managers of the future resulted in running a graduate recruitment program from which it’s first non-accounting graduate has commences.

Installation of New Speedmaster 74 CD 5 colour + coater
CFI upgrades to the latest Heidelberg CD technology with the aquistion of this new press. This augments CFI’s existing Litho platform with the heavier roller power for more effective for full colour commercial work and the ability to coat on-line.

FSC accreditation
As part of it’s corporate social responsibility drive, along with it’s proven environmental improvement, CFI has been the first of a handful of UK printers to acquire the rigorous international FSC accreditation which allows CFI to offer clients an environmentally sound paper.

Muller lines not replaced by Muller
After detailed research and testing, CFI has chosen to upgrade it’s old Muller stitchlines with the latest Heidelberg technology incorporating optical character devices to ensure 100% collation consistency. As always with CFI’s commitment to guaranteed delivery two lines have been acquired.
